Overview:
PL2100 is an audiovisual installation that imagines the future of a swamp as a biomechanical ecosystem. The project combines science and entertainment, presenting a fictional world where technology and nature coexist in a controlled environment. The centerpiece of the installation is a biomechanical alligator that reacts to changes in music intensity, offering visitors an immersive experience that evolves in real time.

As the Artist-Director, I developed the world-building concept and visuals, creating a cohesive narrative around this futuristic ecosystem. In my role as Technologist-Producer, I designed and implemented the real-time audiovisual system, which allowed for dynamic toggling between environmental states based on music tracks. I also oversaw the installation of the system for an exhibition at Sci-Arc, ensuring that both the technical and creative aspects came together seamlessly.

Narrative Trailer

Description
The concept trailer for Palustris 2100 introduces a speculative near-future where the interplay between nature, technology, and entertainment reshapes human experiences. Set in a biomechanical reimagining of the Floridian swamp, the trailer juxtaposes the organic complexity of wetlands with the precision of augmented reality and robotic systems. At its core is a mechanical alligator, activated through a gaming transaction, which serves as both a product of human ingenuity and a reflection of our evolving relationship with creation. The narrative explores how these mechanical imprints—more enduring than their physical forms—challenge our understanding of connection, responsibility, and the emotional resonance of technology in reshaping natural ecosystems.

interactive system

Description
The demo experiment for Palustris 2100 merges physical gestures with digital storytelling through an interactive audiovisual installation. Participants engage with a biomechanical swamp environment using intuitive hand gestures, captured and translated in real-time through digital puppetry. Built on an integrated pipeline of Unreal Engine and TouchDesigner, the system renders photorealistic environments with responsive elements, while OSC, DMX, and MIDI protocols synchronize visuals, spatial audio, and lighting. This technical framework demonstrates a scalable mechanism for participants to directly influence the mechanical alligator's narrative through their movements, creating a dynamic interplay between human agency and digital ecosystem.
