Overview:

XLT-PTCL is a pre-rendered music video project for SXYW's new song "XLT". The project explores various visual effects techniques to create narrative sequences that complement the music. Through experimental visual approaches, the team is developing distinct aesthetics that will shape the final music video's visual language.

As the Visual Technologist, I developed an image-to-particle pipeline in Phase 1 using live-action footage as input. The system allows for flexible manipulation of captured footage, creating unique visual sequences that will be integrated into the final music video. This first phase concluded with the finalization of the pipeline, establishing a distinct aesthetic, and generating key assets to prepare for the next phase of production.

The First Phase for XLT-PTCL

 highlights the development of an image-to-particle pipeline using GLSL in TouchDesigner. Multiple live-action footage tests demonstrate how images are broken down into particles, allowing for precise manipulation and experimentation with textures and motion. This phase focuses on refining the technical process to establish a flexible aesthetic framework. The resulting visuals serve as foundational assets for the music video, showcasing abstract interpretations of imagery that align with the narrative tone of SXYW’s "XLT."

The second phase builds on the existing particle pipeline by incorporating circuit bending techniques to translate planned narrative sequences into particle-driven visuals. Using a timecoded script, the system synchronizes audio data from "XLT" to drive effect intensities, creating dynamic shifts in movement, density, and rhythm. This phase demonstrates how sound analysis shapes the visuals, aligning them with the track’s energy while crafting cohesive sequences that expand on the experimental aesthetics of Phase one.
